Is Nokia N97 really I phone killer?

Let’s see some comparison,

Memory: Nokia N97 has a potential space of 48GB, whereas iPhone’s maximum at the moment is 16GB

Size: iPhone is smaller and lighter than N97. Much of the gained weight on N97 can be attributed to the presence of physical QWERTY keyboard
N97:117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9-18.3 mm 150g
iphone: 115 x 61 x 11.6mm. Weight: 135g

Physical Keys: N97 offers you both physical keys (at a slight compromise on size) with having touch input and a real QWERTY keyboard.

Screen: Both have 3.5” display. iPhone has an aspect ratio of 4:3 while N97 has true widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. Most computers and TV’s we’re using now are more or less 16:9. Another difference to their screens is resolution; iPhone has a respectable 480 x 320. That’s 153600 pixels. N97 has 640x360, and that’s 230400 pixels. But N97 not only has more pixels but because of the similar screen space, you’ve got higher pixel density for crisper, sharper details, great when viewing photos but even better when viewing text such as on webpages/eBooks/documents and the like.

The Operating system: iPhone uses iPhone OS X while N97 uses 5th Edition S60. Both are pretty stable platforms that have their own strengths and weaknesses

Apps: Apple has a plethora of applications that are simple and easy to install at the Apple Store. Symbian’s S60 also has a strong feature with a huge library of applications that would add more functionality and dimension to your phone.

Camera: iPhone has 2MP while the N97 has 5MP with dual LED flash. You’ve also got native support on the N97 for “DVD-like” video capture whereas you’ll require an application to achieve a substandard video recording rate on the iPhone.

Nokia N97: First Look

Like every other smart phone, the Nokia N97 is not just your regular mobile phone it is a multimedia device. But where the N97 truly outshines it competitors is by integrating the cutting edge technology in every single feature. The first look at the demo on youtube reveals a stylish silver wide screen phone which slides open into a tilt screen display with full QWERTY keyboard.

Also, along with a 5mega pixels camera with Carl ZeissTessar lens this phone has a Dual LED flash which means now you can take pictures at night without the fear of grains or bad lighting that plagues almost all phone cameras. And with a mind-blowing 48GB (!!!) memory space, you can capture your whole lifetime in pictures. The camera also takes DVD quality videos, which you can watch on the 16:9 widescreen (640x360 mp) or you could connect the phone to the nearest TV using the headphone jack.

Now surfing the net on your phone is not a new concept but while most smart phones take the joy out of surfing with their hard to use interfaces, with Nokia N97 the experience is much more enjoyable. You can also copy and paste URL’s unlike some other phones (You know whom I’m talking about).

But what is truly new about the N97 is the concept of Social Location (So-Lo). There is an integrated A GPS and built in compass so that this (smart!) phone understands where it is. Combined with photos and videos, this gives you the ability to share with your friend’s real-time information about what you are doing right now. That of course is made easier by the fact that you can have on your home page, an always open page from your favorite social networking site. And this home page, my dear friends, is customizable. Want a short cut to your favorite play list? Or the latest news? Use widgets to choose what you want to see and banish the rest from your sight. It truly is your home page.

The longevity of its battery is another remarkable feature. It comes with the replaceable batteries each of which can give you 400 minutes of talk time and also an astonishing 430 hours of standby time. Add to that an audio playback time of 37 hours and this phone becomes every travelers dream. So if you are taking a trip into the wilderness, the N97 is your perfect companion.

Well, enough said. I am looking to book my N97 at the earliest. What about you?
