Is Nokia N97 really I phone killer?

Let’s see some comparison,

Memory: Nokia N97 has a potential space of 48GB, whereas iPhone’s maximum at the moment is 16GB

Size: iPhone is smaller and lighter than N97. Much of the gained weight on N97 can be attributed to the presence of physical QWERTY keyboard
N97:117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9-18.3 mm 150g
iphone: 115 x 61 x 11.6mm. Weight: 135g

Physical Keys: N97 offers you both physical keys (at a slight compromise on size) with having touch input and a real QWERTY keyboard.

Screen: Both have 3.5” display. iPhone has an aspect ratio of 4:3 while N97 has true widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. Most computers and TV’s we’re using now are more or less 16:9. Another difference to their screens is resolution; iPhone has a respectable 480 x 320. That’s 153600 pixels. N97 has 640x360, and that’s 230400 pixels. But N97 not only has more pixels but because of the similar screen space, you’ve got higher pixel density for crisper, sharper details, great when viewing photos but even better when viewing text such as on webpages/eBooks/documents and the like.

The Operating system: iPhone uses iPhone OS X while N97 uses 5th Edition S60. Both are pretty stable platforms that have their own strengths and weaknesses

Apps: Apple has a plethora of applications that are simple and easy to install at the Apple Store. Symbian’s S60 also has a strong feature with a huge library of applications that would add more functionality and dimension to your phone.

Camera: iPhone has 2MP while the N97 has 5MP with dual LED flash. You’ve also got native support on the N97 for “DVD-like” video capture whereas you’ll require an application to achieve a substandard video recording rate on the iPhone.

One thing you have to clarify is how do you justify the price as N97 is a lot more costlier than iPhone. Looking forward to a post explaining this.

what does it take ur mobile getting slipped in some crowded place or forgetting at some place be it office or pub or restra.with the cost of phones rising enough to match tht of low end laptops sometime i wonder is it not appropriate that the phones should come with some kind of insurance?coz the person is making a good amount of investment in something which he can get for 20th of the cost.should not be there an insurance cost associated with such costly gadgets?

Along with the technical features its the cost which determines whether N97 can really kill i-phone.

QWERTY keyboard is in. One is so used to that now, that thinking otherwise is not an option!

Hopefully Nokia reduces the prices soon around the budget.

And whats going to be the availability, just about everywhere or piecemeal like Iphone.. I think that might make it easier for Nokia to sell these pieces...

but will it actually be better than "iPhone" ? Most likely. Then again some would call me an Apple hater, but I just hate the way Apple lock all their devices into their own software. Anyhow…
but hope this QWERTY keyboard would stand as a winner

I had some models from HTC, actually I'm a big fan from WM and touchscreen, I also had E65 before that, so symbian is familiar to me.Now, I have a brand new E90, and it's awesome, it's like holding a Maybach in your hand!Sure,it's not touch sensitive, it's has no fluid UI, but everything you need,it's just there, when you need it! It's a smart PC, and N97 offer all this stuff+touch+qwerty+ the stable symbian OS,so...I think this will be my next phone

The social networking features seem to be far ahead of what any other phone maker is thinking of. That would make N97 a BIG hit among net-saavy people.
But the iPhone just works like a gem... its a pleasure to operate. If N97 manages to do that, iPhone would have some tough competition.
Then again, there's this crap-speed mobile internet in India which may make the whole thing fall apart. Lets hope for cheap 3G to become available fast.

The multi touch is the killer feature that iPhone has. Having it patent protected has virtually killed off any competitor. And apple commands a cults status Nokia can never match. So irrespective of what Nokia throws at iPhone, i dont expect the iPhone to get killed

Features wise Nokia N97 is truly awesome. But it can never beat Iphone's ease of use, the aura of apple, touchflo and UI..
The crippled features in Iphone like blue tooth can be used only for headphone, mp3s cannot be used as ringtone, you have download from Itunes, not having video recording capability etc are painful for high end users in India
Nokia N97 beats Iphone hands down in those areas.
But in terms of the aspirational users, the ones who want a top notch great phone to show off which is easy to use and has good music player, need great UI will definetly prefer Iphone

Nokia with its sheer brand value and reach in India has a clear edge over Iphone here in terms of mass sales. The right positioning is very crucial.

phone looks great but a full physical key board is a pure business feature although N series is segmented as multi utility phone it might confuse lot of people like me who strictly use business phone

"I think the phone looks great and seems to have a lot of exciting features. Reliabilty is what has always driven me towards Nokia but somewhere at the back of my mind I always felt that a Nokia lacked panache! I am really looking foward to getting a closer look at the N97 and hope it will dispel all doubts!"
